Pre-Lodgement Advice

Whenever you intend to lodge a Development Application at Port Stephens Council various forms of pre lodgement advice are available to you.

It is Council’s aim to assist you wherever possible towards a successful outcome as quickly, confidently and cost effectively as possible.

The benefits of pre lodgement advice include:

  • Access to all the professionals who may be involved in assessing your application at an early stage, to save you time and money in preparing your application;
  • Council officers understand early in the process what it is you are trying to achieve;
  • Agreement on what is required, what is or is not possible on  the proposed development site.

HOW IT WORKS

Option 1

If you are not sure about any aspect of your application, you can obtain free advice at the counter or over the phone from a duty planner between the hours of 9 – 12 every day; or by appointment outside those hours.

This option is recommended for less complex matters and ones where the development does not fall into the category of ‘integrated’ or ‘designated’ development.

Option 2

For more complex matters it is recommended that a  meeting with the Development Advisory Panel (DAP) is arranged.  DAP is a multi disciplinary panel providing professional advice.

To make an appointment for a meeting with DAP:

  • complete the Request for Pre Lodgement Advice, available on Councils website or by phoning 02 49 800 115;
  • upon receipt of your completed form, documentation and fees, a Council officer will phone you to arrange a suitable appointment.

At the meeting the documentation provided will be discussed with you.  The panel endeavours to provide a record of the advice provided as a same day service, it reserves the right to investigate and provide a more considered response to any issue(s) arising from the meeting process.

Fees are charged in accordance with Council's current "Fees and Charges Schedule".
