Samurai puts competitors to the sword - Media Release

Last modified: June 10, 2008 - 9:40 AM

Samurai Beach Resort has been officially recognized by AAA as a highly environmentally friendly resort and awarded a green star – the only holiday park in Port Stephens to do so.

Needing a minimum 220 points under AAA’s strict criteria, Samurai Resort achieved an outstanding 340 points to comfortably achieve the prestigious status.

Speaking today, Resort Manager Simon Beckett said the holiday park had been rewarded for some innovative achievements.

“We work very hard across the board to reduce our impact on the environment, but there were a couple of initiatives that came in for special praise from AAA,” he said.

“Firstly, we have developed our own native plant farm which is used to grow all our landscaping requirements on site.”

“Other highlights were our Koala management and education programs which have proved very popular and our recent decision to adopt a micro fibre cleaning system. This move has meant that we have virtually eradicated all chemicals from our housekeeping operation.”

Samurai Beach Resort is one of several holiday parks owned and operated by Port Stephens Council. Last year it was the winner of the Mid North Coast Tourism Award.
