Blue Water Country Comes to the Terrace - Media Release

Last modified: May 23, 2008 - 11:43 AM

After receiving a funding boost from state and federal governments, Raymond Terrace will play a larger role in this year’s Blue Water Country Music Festival, to be held over the June long weekend.

While much of the festival’s focus will be on Nelson Bay, funding received through the Hunter Community Recovery Fund has enabled an increased itinerary in the Terrace.
The Hunter Community Recovery Fund was established by the NSW and Commonwealth Governments to assist communities recover from the effects of the 2007 June long weekend storms.
Following the extensive flooding last year, funding of $24,915 was obtained by Blue Water Country Music festival organisers to support the Raymond Terrace Recovery concert in Riverside Park  on Monday 9th June.
This concert will also provide an opportunity for the Emergency Service groups to showcase their activities and provide advice to local residents regarding future emergencies.

Whilst country music will feature in licensed venues across Raymond Terrace over the weekend, the focus of celebrations and entertainment will be on Saturday 7 June in the Raymond Terrace main street and in Riverside Park on Monday 9 June.

On Saturday the 7th, the town’s main street will be closed to traffic to create a unique shopping and music environment. Buskers and street stalls will accompany a host of activity in Williams Street between 9am and 3pm.

On Monday the 9th, Riverside Park becomes the focal point with a free sausage sizzle, a host of country musicians, children’s entertainment and Emergency Service demonstrations.

Speaking today, Port Stephens Mayor said the entire local government area was gearing up for the festival.

“This is the third year the festival has run and despite some average weather previously, 2008 promises to be biggest and best event so far,” he said.

“It is particularly pleasing that we are seeing artists performing right across Port Stephens. There should be something for everyone.”
