Council to Enter Discussions Regarding North Raymond Terrace Rezoning - Media releaseLast modified: March 14, 2008 - 5:02 PM
The Minister for Planning Frank Sartor has today issued a media release outlining plans to establish a working party to review the impact of defence aircraft noise on proposed land rezoning at North Raymond Terrace. The working party will involve representatives from the Department of Defence, Port Stephens Council, NSW Department of Planning and the Defence Support Group. Speaking today, Port Stephens Council General Manager Mr Peter Gesling said Council was keen to enter further discussions and remain a key a stakeholder in the process, going forward. “Port Stephens has been earmarked for substantial population growth in the Lower Hunter Strategy, with North Raymond Terrace one of a few potential sites for expansion,” he said. “We are obviously very keen to be a part of any discussions that have a potential bearing on that expansion.” “Depending on the findings of the working party, there may need to be a re-think on the part of Council and the State Government with regard to the overall Lower Hunter Strategy as it currently stands.” “Obviously the Minister for Defence has raised some issues that require further discussion, however we remain confident that further economic and population growth in our region is sustainable in the long term.”
