Media release - Minister to inspect Soldiers Point boat ramp
Last modified: October 15, 2009 - 7:49 AM
Port Stephens Council Deputy Mayor Cr Bob Westbury and NSW Ports and Waterways Minister Joe Tripodi will inspect the $420,000 redevelopment of Soldiers Point boat ramp tomorrow, Thursday 15 October.
Speaking today, Cr Westbury said the project was completed with the help of a NSW Maritime grant of $210,000 which Council matched dollar for dollar.
"The local boating community have greatly appreciated the improvements to the Soldiers Point boat ramp," Cr Westbury said.
The Soldiers Point Boat Ramp project involved widening the ramp to three lanes and the installation of two on-ramp pontoons for launching, retrieving and boarding boats. An upgrade of seawalls and car/trailer parking facilities are also proposed.
"Council is committed to improving the quality of our services and have an ambitious plan to upgrade all the waterway facilities in Port Stephens," Cr Westbury said.
"We plan to work on the Karuah boat ramp next and we hope to again partner with NSW Maritime to deliver the best results for the community."
Mr Tripodi said the project received State government funding from NSW Maritime’s Better Boating Program which provides state-wide support to a range of organisations including councils, community groups and boating clubs.
"Since the inception of the boating infrastructure grants program in 1998, more than 400 projects have been awarded grants worth $20 million by NSW Maritime," he said.
