This exhibition features t-shirt designs created by local community members who participated in screen printing classes open to people 12 to 112 years! Over eight weeks participants learned techniques such as creating images suitable for t-shirts, use of stencils, colour blending, and screen printing skills.
Screen printing is not as easy as it may appear. A crucial part of the classes focused on identifying and solving the many problems that may arise during the printing process. The design component of the classes allowed participants to share and develop their creative ideas. The t-shirts on display demonstrate how well the participants embraced the art form and used their newfound skills to create individual works.
What the participants had to say:
-
“Wish it could run longer”
-
“I enjoyed looking at everyone’s finished t-shirt ”
-
“...would do it again any day”
-
“It was a real joy to see the class taking on the sometimes difficult world of screen printing and helping each other to succeed.” Lisa Hyde-Mills (Project Coordinator)
