Last modified: August 21, 2008 - 8:24 PM

Environmental Health is concerned with the investigation, assessment and management of the physical, chemical, biological and social factors in our environment that have the potential to impact upon human health and well being.

In managing these factors Environmental Health focuses on creating and maintaining sustainable environments that permit human development, enhance human health and wellbeing and ensure environmental protection.

Environmental Health Officers look after a broad variety of aspects within Council. An Environmental Health Officer's main functions within Council are:

  • Food Safety Inspections
  • Wastewater Inspections
  • Hairdressing, Skin Penetration and Beauty Salon Inspections
  • Swimming Pools
  • Health Education
  • Investigating issues such as noise, air, land and water pollution, overgrown properties, rubbish dumpings and stormwater and drainage
  • Emergency Management
