Waste & Recycling
‘One of the most innovative and sustainable waste management systems in Australia’Port Stephens Council is committed to reducing the impact of waste on the environment. Its innovative approach to waste management has seen a reduction in the amount of waste to landfill by approximately 60% by using the following technologies to manage domestic and commercial waste: - Port Stephens Council was the first in New South Wales to use ‘alternative waste technology’. It uses the Bedminster Composting plant (owned by SITA Environmental Solutions) to process our domestic waste into compost, providing a resource rich in nutrients and organic matter - Households and businesses have a separate bin for recyclables which are sorted and re-manufactured into new products - Excess waste received at Waste Transfer Stations is sorted and where possible reused or recycled. The following pages have been developed by Council to assist you in accessing information relating to your Waste and Recycling Services.
