Noxious WeedsLast modified: November 12, 2009 - 3:05 PM
The Weeds of the Hunter and Central Coast booklet is available free from council. It features colour photos of 29 of the most important weed species present in the region and information on identification and control.
Port Stephens Council noxious weed list contains approximately 100 noxious weeds in 5 classes, each with differing control requirements. General information about NSW weed matters can be found at http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/agriculture/pests-weeds/weeds. To create the current noxious weed list the NSW department of Primary Industries added the twenty Weeds of National Significance (WoNS,- see http://www.weeds.org.au for general WoNS information), the weeds previously listed in the Seeds Act 1982 and also several new weeds of particular concern. Of particular interest for Port Stephens is the declaration of Chinese Violet (Asystasia gangetica subspecies micrantha) as a class 1 noxious weed. Refer to the link below for information on controlling Chinese Violet. Egeria densa and all species of Lantana are included in class 5. This means the trade of these plants is now banned, although there is no specific requirement to otherwise control them. The downloadable list is designed to be printed double sided and folded in three to form a brochure. Contact details
