On-site Sewage Management
The Port Stephens local government area currently has over 4500 on-site sewage management systems. On-site systems are concentrated in areas not provided with a reticulated sewer system and include the localities of Bobs Farm, Brandy Hill, Butterwick, Campvale, Duns Creek, Eagleton, East Seaham, Fullerton Cove, Glen Oak, Heatherbrae, Hinton, Nelsons Plains, Osterley, Oyster Cove, Salt Ash, Seaham, Swan Bay, Wallalong, Williamtown and Woodville. The majority of the systems are septic tanks with either absorption trenchs or evapo-transpiration areas or Aerated Watewater Treatment Systems (AWTS). Other system types include pump to sewer, pump-outs and Wisconsin mounds.
