State of the Environment (SoE) Reports

Last modified: December 11, 2008 - 4:27 PM

The State of the Environment Report provides information on the environment and natural resources.

An agreed set of indicators are used which monitor changes and trends in environmental conditions. NSW Councils must prepare a SoE report on an annual basis which is either Comprehensive (every four years) or Supplementary (annually).

This year's report is Supplementary. Its purpose is to identify any new environmental impacts since the Council's previous SoE report, and to update trends in environmental indicators important to each environmental sector.

This report utilises the Pressure State Response Model for environmental reporting. The Pressure State Response Model identifies and describes the following:

  • Pressure - describes human activities that are bringing about environmental change (Heath, I., 1999).
  • State - describes the condition of the environment and natural resources assets, current environmental issues and trends (Environmental Protection Authority, 1995).
  • Response - describes what is being done by councils, government agencies, industries and communities in response to the pressures placed on, and state of the environment (Department of Local Government, 1998).

The report also recommends actions for implementation that are designed to protect, restore and better manage the natural environment of Port Stephens.

As adopted by Council at its meeting on 27 November 2007.
