Family History Society Inc. Port Stephens

Port Stephens Family History Society was formed in 1986 (formerly known as Tilligerry Family History Society). The Society has its own research library at the Tilligerry Community Centre, Lemon Tree Passage, which is available for both members and non-members to use (a small fee is charged for non-members).

The Society has a licence from the LDS Church to act as a Research Centre, allowing the Society to order in Microfilm,  a service available to all researchers in Port Stephens.

The library's Australian collection includes an ever expanding range of:

  • birth, death and marriage indexes
  • probate indexes
  • convict records
  • cemetery indexes
  • pioneer registers
  • local and family histories and lots more

The overseas collection primarily covers the countries of Great Britain but also includes records from some European countries and New Zealand. The collection includes:

    • census records
    • IGI (International Genealogical Index)
    • British Vital Records
    • National Burial Index
    • Griffith's Valuation of Ireland,

The library is open each Tuesday afternoon between 1pm and 4pm; and on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month between 1pm and 4pm (except Saturdays which fall on a long weekend). The Society also has a 3-4 week recess between mid December and mid-January.

    Our publications include

    • "A history of the Tilligerry Peninsula"
    • "Henry F. Halloran in Port Stephens: the legacy"
    • "Anna Bay Lawn Cemetery: headstone inscriptions & photographs"
    • "Convicts of the Australian Agricultural Company, 1825-1850 (including some assigned to Company officers and indentured servants)".

All of these publications are available from our Society at Lemon Tree Passage; from Port Stephens Council in Raymond Terrace; and from the Tilligerry Habitat Shop at Tanilba Bay.
