Council is an advocate for culture, supporting and empowering community groups in the delivery of quality cultural programs across Port Stephens. Council’s cultural development program is delivered in partnership with the community and government agencies.

Cultural planning considers the increased and diverse benefits that a community’s cultural life brings to the economy, society and environment. Cultural planning provides strategic direction to Council, community and the private sector in heritage, the arts, cultural tourism and indigenous cultures.

The Cultural Plan is in development, which will map the way forward for how council and the community work together to address the cultural agenda.

Cultural Projects Fund - Published: 22 May 2009
The Port Stephens Cultural Project Fund provides funding to non-profit community organisations toward cultural projects that improve the quality of life for the Port Stephens community. Applications closed 24 August 2009 and applicants will be advised of the outcome by October 2009. This is an annual funding program so projects seeking support will have another opportunity when applications open February-March 2010. more ..

Survey of organisations with an interest in culture and the arts - Published: 03 Jul 2009
Organisations with an interest in culture and the arts were invited to participate in a survey to provide input on:

How your organisation would like to interact with Council on cultural matters

Your interest in attending a Cultural Forum and/or participating in a Cultural Committee

Ranking cultural priorities, to inform finalisation of the draft Cultural Plan

Your community's cultural infrastructure needs

The survey has closed and results have already informed Council decisions.

The Mezzanine Art Gallery - Published: 25 May 2009
The gallery provides opportunities for local artists, cultural groups and participants in creative projects to share their work with the broader community. Applications to exhibit as part of the 2010 program closed 24 August 2009. The 2010 program will be launched later in the year. more ..
