Port Stephens Access Committee

The Port Stephens Access Committee is a community based advisory group dedicated to improving the quality of life for all people regarding access issues within our community

What is the Access Committee?

The Port Stephens Access Committee is dedicated to improving the quality of life for all people regarding access issues within our community.

It is a community based advisory committee of Port Stephens Council.

Through the Access Committee all community members and service providers have a unique opportunity to discuss issues and strategies to make our community a barrier-free environment by providing informative feedback to Council.

Click here to obtain a copy of the Accessibility Issue Form. This form allows members of the public to report and register any community access issues / limitations.
To submit the form:
- send by email to the Community Planner (see contact details below)
- print a copy and post to Attn: Community Planner, Port Stephens Council, PO BOX 42, Raymond Terrace, NSW, 2324
- print and submit at any Access Committee meeting of your choice

How does the Access Committee benefit my community?

The Committee: Monitors Council's access policies and their implementation Identifies how Council improve access Lobbies developers, Council and government agencies/public services to improve access and public services Reviews development applications to advise on access provisions Provides a forum for, and raises awareness about community access issues

How can I help the Access Committee improve the quality of life for people within our community?

• By joining the Access Committee and attending meetings;
• By assisting in Committee activities such as community awareness day for councillors, writing letters, conducting surveys, reviewing plans for access provisions;
• By providing useful information on community access issues to the committee;
• By contributing in other formats, for example, email.

Who joins the Access Committee?

Membership is open to anyone interested in creating a barrier-free community and equal access to all services.

Minutes of meetings are available for people unable to attend and can be posted or emailed or viewed on the council website.

Port Stephens Draft Pedestrian Access Mobility Plan (PAMP)

Port Stephens Council, in conjunction with the Roads and Traffic Authority and Lindsay Perry Consultants, have developed a plan to provide safe, convenient and connected pedestrian routes for mobility-impaired groups in the community, including older persons and people with disabilities.

Council's PAMP program will provide wide transportation, environmental and social benefits to the community and has been developed to ensure better planning and improved links with existing vulnerable road user plans such as bike plans, maintenance programs and accessible public transport.

PAMPS help to link State and Local Government planning instruments (e.g. Local Environmental Plans (LEPs), Development Control Plans (DCPs) and Council's requirements under Sections 79c and 94 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, 1979 (EP&A Act). Implementation of the final recommendations of the PAMP Program will be subject to available funding.
