Your Community Precinct - It's Your Chance to make a difference Take an interest in and contribute to the planning of your community. As a resident, business operator or ratepayer, you are automatically a member of your local Precinct. Precincts play an integral role in community consultation, and were created to complement and enhance the representative electoral system by providing you, the resident, with a say, and the opportunity to influence Council decision making. The Precinct system began in Port Stephens in 1993, and is one part of Council's consultation process that addresses its obligations under the Local Government Act, 1993. It operates in accordance with the [Precinct Operating Procedures], which were adopted by Port Stephens Council in early 2000. Precincts give residents direct access to Councillors and Council staff and the opportunity to contribute to the Management Plan, Council's budgeting process and the Forward Works Program. Precincts are also involved in issues particular to your local area, such as proposed developments, zoning of land, speed limits and health care. They play an important role in Council's communication and consultation with the community. There are currently three precincts across our Local Government Area being:
Meetings are often attended by Port Stephens councillors, and regularly feature addresses from guest speakers and Council staff. Contact details
