Nelson Head Heritage Lighthouse & ReserveLast modified: November 22, 2007 - 10:23 AM
A spectacular site with panoramic views of the entrance to Port Stephens. Housed in the National Trust classified lighthouse cottage, the museum has several display rooms. See old lighthouse and other maritime equipment and displays of local coastal history with extensive photographs, maps and documents. There's the history of the Coastal Patrol, the story of HMAS Assault and a model of the Lady Nelson. Another room in the cottage features domestic items donated by residents of Nelson Bay and adjacent areas and local history. The working Coastal Patrol radio base, staffed by volunteers, is open to visitors. Enjoy the views from the radio base and the tea rooms, open for morning and afternoon teas and lunches – famous for their scones! Entry is free and donations are appreciated. The gift shop has a large range of merchandise. Nelson Head Heritage Lighthouse Museum is open daily from 10 am –4 pm.
